Kaiserslautern:
The city (pop. 100,000) owes its
name to Emperor Barbarossa. The
emperor or Kaiser
was taken by the beauty of the countryside
and built himself a palace in Lautern
(hence Kaisers Lautern).
Today Kaiserslautern is a modern
city with a lively student scene
and attractive shops. Its
a good base for walking holidays
in the Pfalz region.
